The Davis Cup was first played back in 1900 and is the premier international team event in men’s tennis. Due to the fact the tournament is a huge point of pride for countries, it draws a lot of attention and Davis Cup betting odds are extremely popular.

It is run by the International Tennis Federation (ITF) and Kosmos Holding and is contested annually in a knock-out format. Many refer to the tournament as the “World Cup of Tennis” and the winners are referred to as the World Champion team.

How to Read Davis Cup Odds

Now you know how the competition works, let’s look at the various betting markets on offer for the Davis Cup odds. One thing bettors must consider is the surface being played on, which classically is a hard-court surface. This will favour certain competitors, boosting the odds for certain countries.

While teams cannot be carried entirely by one player, such as Rafael Nadal or Novak Djokovic, the tennis betting odds will be greatly affected by the presence of these particular stars. Anyway, without further adieu, let’s get into the different betting markets:

  • Outright Betting – The most simplistic type of bet. Bettors select one of the competitors to win the Davis Cup outright. When playing the odds for an outright winning country, it’s worth looking at how the individual players have performed throughout the group stages, even referencing recent performance in a competition (The ATP Tour for example).
  • Set Betting – Set betting is unique to tennis. This kind of bet entails betting on the outcome of a set within a specific match. While bettors often like to place outright or match bets, live betting has become increasingly popular and the most common line is set betting. It’s worth tracking the odds as the match is underway and waiting for the right moment to wager as opportunities in the odds appear.
  • Match Betting – Match betting is probably the most popular type of bet alongside outright betting. Players reading the Davis Cup odds will often choose nations to win specific matches – this can be done as an individual bet or put into an accumulator. Accumulators (Parlays) allow bettors to select a variety of matches together, which increases the risk of the bet but offers a great payout.
  • Over/Under Betting – Less common among most Davis Cup odds bettors. Normally, the odds are based around sets, meaning bettors wager on the over/under in an attempt to predict the number of sets in a certain match. The figure used to decide the over/under is selected by the provider.
