A rematch of Super Bowl LIX is on the schedule for Week 2 of the 2025 NFL season. In that game, the defending champion Philadelphia Eagles head to Arrowhead Stadium to face the Kansas City Chiefs. The Eagles defeated the Chiefs 40-22 in last year’s Super Bowl, preventing the Chiefs from winning the NFL title three seasons in a row.
The Eagles opened the 2025 NFL season with a Thursday night win over the Dallas Cowboys in Week 1. The recent Super Bowl champs won that contest 24-20 at home after raising their Super Bowl banner at Lincoln Financial Field. The Chiefs opened their 2025 campaign in Brazil, losing to the San Diego Chargers 27-21.
The Eagles and Chiefs have met 12 times over the years, and the series is tied 6-6. The Eagles have won the two most recent meetings between the clubs, beating them in November 2023 (21-17) and then in Super Bowl LIX.

The Philadelphia Eagles offense did what it needed to do against the Cowboys last week, which is not to downplay the team’s effectiveness, but to point out that they do not have to be great to get wins. However, that could change this week as the Chiefs have issues with their defensive line, which means the Eagles offense could shine this week.
One player to focus on for the Eagles is defensive lineman Jalen Carter. Carter missed the entire Cowboys game after spitting on quarterback Dak Prescott. He will look to put that behind him by having a highlight reel game in Kansas City.
The Eagles need to exploit the weaknesses of the Chiefs. That could be through the passing game, thanks to a weak pas rush and the fact that Philly has the receivers to give the Chiefs’ secondary trouble, or it could be through the running game with the threat of Saquon Barkley and quarterback Jalen Hurts.
The Eagles are deeper and healthier than the Chiefs heading into Week 2 of the NFL season, and that could be all they need to start the year 2-0.
The Kansas City Chiefs have never started a season with a 0-2 record with Patrick Mahomes as their quarterback. That run could come to an end this week when the club plays the Philadelphia Eagles at home.
While the Chiefs will have home-field advantage, they could be missing two of their receivers. We know Rashee Rice is out due to suspension for the first six games of the season, and Xavier Worthy is listed as questionable with a shoulder injury. In addition, defenses no longer need to plan around Jason Kelce anymore as he heads toward the end of his career. With questions on the passing side of the ball, Mahomes needs to do something spectacular to beat the Eagles, but with so little else for Philly to worry about on Sunday, that task might be too much for him.
The Chiefs’ defensive line did not look good last week. The club needs to shore up its play up front if it hopes to get revenge on the Eagles for their Super Bowl loss.
