Two NFC division-leading teams clash on Sunday night when the Detroit Lions head to Lincoln Financial Field to face the Philadelphia Eagles. Detroit (6-3) sits atop the NFC North, while Philadelphia (7-2) is the top team in the NFC East.
The Lions opened the 2025-26 NFL season with a 4-1 record, but the club has alternated wins and losses over its past four outings, falling to the Kansas City Chiefs (30-17), and Minnesota Vikings (27-24), while picking up wins over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (24-9), and beating the Washington Commanders (44-22) in Week 10.
The defending Super Bowl champion Eagles began the season on a 4-0 run, but then dropped games to the Denver Broncos (21-17) and the New York Giants (34-17). Since the upset loss to the Giants, Philadelphia is 3-0, and is coming off a 10-7 win over the Green Bay Packers in Week 10.
The Lions and Eagles have played 36 times, with Philadelphia leading the series 18-16-2. In the team’s most recent meeting, which took place in 2022, Philly defeated Detroit 38-35 on the road.

Detroit Lions head coach Dan Campbell took over offensive play-calling duties from offensive coordinator John Morton for the team’s 44-22 trouncing of the Washington Redskins, and the expectation is that the change will give the Lions offense a boost against the Eagles’ defense.
The thing to watch with Campbell’s play calling is if it will give Detroit quarterback Jared Goff time to operate. The Lions QB has faced the sixth-highest pressure rate among qualified quarterbacks in the NFL. With Campbell calling the plays against Washington, the Lions ran on 48.5 percent of their snaps last week. Philadelphia is in the bottom half of yards per game allowed rushing (118.6), so expect more of the same against the Eagles.
Wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown is a player to watch for the Lions, especially if Goff gets time to find him open downfield. St. Brown is fifth in the NFL in receiving yards with 693, but he only had eight targets and 58 yards against Washington. CeeDee Lamb, Puka Nacua, Emeka Egbuka, and Jordan Addison all gained at least 100 yards against Philly, while Courtland Sutton picked up 99
The Philadelphia Eagles entered the 2025 NFL season as the defending Super Bowl champions, having beaten the Kansas City Chiefs 40-22 in Super Bowl LIX. After a 14-3 run during the regular season. As is often the case, some expected the team to suffer a Super Bowl hangover in the early part of the year. The Eagles came out strong, but hit a bump in the road against Denver and the NY Giants, but have recovered with three straight wins.
The Eagles’ offense has not been great this season. The team is 23rd in the NFL in yards per game (304.4). Despite that number, Philly knows how to pick up points, as the club ranks 12th in points per game from the offense (24.2).
The Eagles made some defensive moves at the trade deadline. Most notable was picking up former first-round pick Jaelan Phillips. Phillips fit in well in his first game in Philly, picking up a season high six tackles against the Packers. The team’s new look defense limited Green Bay to 4.0 yards per play. With some more time on the practice field, look for some improvements on the defensive side of the ball.
The Lions have a lot more offensive weapons than the Packers, and the defense will be tested in a big way this week.
