Since 2010, the Philadelphia Eagles and the Dallas Cowboys have dominated the NFC East. The Eagles have won the division six times over that span, while the Cowboys have five titles. The Washington Commanders have three division titles, while the New York Giants have won the NFC East once since 2010. Over the past four years, the Eagles and Cowboys have alternated as NFC East champs. Last year, Philadelphia won with a 14-3 record.
As the 2025 NFL season nears, the Eagles look to win back-to-back NFC East titles. No team has managed to do that since Philly won the division four times in a row between 2001 and 2004.
The preseason betting odds have the Eagles favored to go back-to-back, with the Commanders as the next best betting pick to win the NFC East.

The Philadelphia Eagles enter the 2025 NFL season as the defending Super Bowl champs, beating the Kansas City Chiefs 40-22 in Super Bowl LIX. After a 14-3 run during the regular season. As is often the case, some expect the team to suffer a Super Bowl hangover in the early part of the year, which they cannot afford, as they open the season with games against Dallas and Kansas City.
The Eagles offense is pretty much the same as last year, being led by quarterback Jalen Hurts, running back Saquon Barkley, and receivers A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith. However, the team does have a new offensive coordinator. Kevin Patullo has replaced Kellen Moore, who is now head coach of the New Orleans Saints.
The defense is where to watch the Eagles as they lost some key players in the off season in edge rushers Brandon Graham and Josh Sweat, cornerback Darius Slay, safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson and defensive tackle Milton Williams.
The Washington Commanders had a very good season last year, putting together a 12-5 regular season record before making it to the NFC Championship game, where they fell to the Eagles 55-23. The goal for this season is to make the playoffs as the team has not made it to the post season in back-to-back years since 1991-92. Commanders quarterback Jayden Williams was born in 2000.
On paper, the Commanders are better heading into the 2025 NFL season. Looking to help Daniels, the club traded for receiver Deebo Samuel and five-time Pro Bowl left tackle Laremy Tunsil. On defense, Washington was active in free agency, picking up four players to help on the line.
The Commanders are in the middle of the pack when it comes to strength of schedule. The team opens the season with games against the Giants, Packers, Raiders, and Falcons.
The Dallas Cowboys’ run of making the playoffs for three consecutive seasons ended last year, when the club finished with a losing record for the first time since 2020, when they went 6-10. The Cowboys wrapped up 2024 with a 7-10 record. That span, 2020-24, was the entire run of Mike McCarthy’s head coaching tenure in Dallas. The Cowboys replaced McCarthy with Brian Schottenheimer, who is moving into his first head coaching gig.
Expect some growing pains this year in Dallas. As the team gets accustomed to its new coach and his schemes.
The team lost future Hall of Fame guard Zack Martin to retirement and defensive end Demarcus Lawrence to Seattle in free agency. Those two are likely to be replaced by players the team drafted this year, guard Tyler Booker and defensive end Donovan Ezeiruaku.
The team is also without defensive star Micah Parsons, who is waiting on a contract extension from the front office. The Cowboys’ defense cannot afford to be without Parsons to start the season.
There is some good news: quarterback Dak Prescott, who played only eight games in 2024, is back and healthy.
The NY Giants have made the playoffs once since 2017, winning the wild card game in 2022. The team has had one winning season during that same span, going 9-7 in 2022. Last year, the Giants finished the season with a record of 3-14.
The Giants will have veteran quarterback Russell Wilson under center to start the year. Wilson is on his fourth team in five years, and he is not likely to get a lot of grace from the coaching staff as rookie Jaxson Dart is waiting in the wings for the starting job in New York. Ideally, Dart will play all or most of this year behind a veteran like Wilson, but plans can change quickly in the NFL.
I don’t think anyone is expecting a tremendous turnaround from the Giants, but an improvement from last season has to be on the to-do list.
The Eagles might have some issues early in the year, and the Commanders could start out hot, but by the end of the 2025 NFL season, look for the Eagles to win the NFC East.
The betting pick is for the Philadelphia Eagles to win the NFC East in 2025.
