The wait is almost over, as the Seattle Seahawks and New England Patriots are set to face off in the Super Bowl on Sunday night in Santa Clara. As you could have guessed, millions of bets are being placed worldwide, with countless ones being posted in Sin City. Well, a Vegas bettor has $3 million on the line if the Seahawks win the Super Bowl. Are they going to come out on top?
According to a new article from Yahoo Sports, someone placed a bet through a Las Vegas sportsbook before the season even started. That bettor put down $50,000 for the Seahawks to win the Super Bowl, which had 60-to-1 odds. Because of those fantastic odds, they indeed will be taking home a mind-blowing $3 million if Seattle is able to work its magic.
That’s of course not going to be easy, as the New England Patriots have been on a fantastic run as well. The Seahawks offense, led by quarterback Sam Darnold, has been tremendous this postseason, while the defense has been strong too. Because of that, Seattle is a small favorite for this one, which has Seahawks fans everywhere dreaming of another title being on the way to the Emerald City.
Per the top sports betting sites, the Seahawks hold -110 NFL Vegas odds, which probably has this particular bettor with $3 million on the line feeling extra confident that Seattle is going to take down New England. It will be interesting to see how things shape out there, but the Seahawks have a great chance of winning it all and making people who put money down on them quite happy.
A Patriots fan can win $4 million if New England beats Seattle
Elsewhere, it has also been reported that a Patriots fan can win $4 million if New England beats Seattle. This bettor put $2 million down when New England had 2-to-1 Super Bowl betting odds. In the postseason, the Pats have been sharp, especially on defense. In the AFC Championship Game, head coach Mike Vrabel was quite pleased with New England holding Denver, the No. 1 seed in the AFC, to only seven points.
“Today was just another example of, as things kind of change and unfold, our ability to adjust,” Vrabel said after New England punched its ticket to the Super Bowl. “Players executed when they had to. I know there’s going to be a lot of questions about this, that the other thing. We did enough to win the football game in tough conditions.”
Are you interested in getting in on the betting action too? This is our reminder for you that there are still some fantastic promotions being offered by local sportsbooks, of course including the ones on BetOnline and Bovada. The Super Bowl is always one of the most, if not the most, popular sports events for when it comes to making wagers and this year’s game is going to be no different.
Overall, there’s a decent amount of money going down on New England to post a bit of an upset here. The Pats have been given +125 odds to win the Super Bowl this year. Before the season started, not many people thought either of these teams would be playing for the big game, which is going to have a negative impact overall on the sportsbooks due to people placing so many preseason bets.
Seattle and New England playing in the Super Bowl still has people shocked
Looking at things as a whole, Seattle and New England playing in the Super Bowl still has people shocked. Before the start of the season, the assumption was that the Kansas City Chiefs and the Philadelphia Eagles would meet in the Super Bowl for a rematch of last year’s game. The Eagles won that game, putting on a show in the process. This time around, though, the Eagles lost in the Wild Card Round to the 49ers.
For the Chiefs, Kansas City, in shocking fashion, didn’t even reach the playoffs. The team looked rough to start the year and then things were made even worse when star quarterback Patrick Mahomes tore his ACL. Obviously, those two teams struggling this campaign had a large impact for the Vegas sportsbooks, as a lot of the early money went on those two teams to go on deep playoff runs.
The same was not expected for Seattle and New England, but both teams are now one win away from winning it all. The Seahawks were not expected to do much with Sam Darnold as its starting quarterback, but the veteran quarterback will enter Sunday’s game as the favorite to take home Super Bowl Most Valuable Player honors. Soon enough, we’ll find out if he takes home that award or not.
