The MotoGP season heads to Italy for the ninth race of the season, as the riders on the grid look to continue their pursuit to become world champion.
The legendary rider Marc Marquez has started the season in fantastic form and currently leads the way in the Drivers’ Championship, but he will face big competition on an iconic track in order to extend his lead at the top.
We will take a look at the race and provide you with our best free MotoGP betting picks to try and earn you some extra cash while you enjoy the action on the track.
A six-time world champion in MotoGP, Marquez is dominating the track en route to number seven, and he started the season in perfect form in 2025.
After dominating in both Thailand and Argentina in the opening two races of the season, claiming not only the win but also pole position in qualifying and registering the fastest lap during the race. He then did the same in America, but was beaten to first place by Francesco Bagnaia after he was forced to retire early during the race.
He then won the next race in Qatar before a 12th-place finish in his home Spanish Grand Prix in a disappointing performance. He has since claimed three consecutive podiums, though, finishing second in France, third in the UK and then winning last time out in Aragon.
This is without a doubt Marquez’s race to lose, but it’s not guaranteed. In his career, he has only won once on this track, back in 2014, while he finished on the podium on two other occasions. History isn’t on his side, even if recent success is.
Based on the way the season has gone so far, he is the obvious pick to get the victory here. The odds are good, too, considering the lack of success over his career, so take them while you can.
While Ducati have been the leading team in MotoGP this season, Bagnaia has struggled in comparison to more recent campaigns. Looking beyond the current leader and heavy favorite Marquez, his teammate Bagnaia is likely to be a serious contender for success here.
Bagnaia, who will be competing in his home country this weekend, claimed his only win of the season in the Grand Prix of the Americas back in the third race of the season. He has also claimed four podium places, while also finishing fourth in another race.
But the most impressive stat heading into this weekend is that Bagnaia has won each of the last three races at Mugello, making him the third most successful MotoGP rider in history at this track after the legendary Jorge Lorenzo and Valentino Rossi.
While Marquez is the favorite, and rightly so, there is every chance that Bagnaia gets his own bid to become the world champion back on track by claiming victory in his favorite place on Earth.
Francesco Bagnaiato win MotoGP Italian Grand Prix 2025
The younger brother of the heavy favorite and current championship leader, Alex Marquez had started the season in incredible form, and he has somewhat maintained it as the campaign has gone on.
The Gresini Ducati rider finished as the runner-up behind his brother in both Thailand and Argentina, and also finished second in America behind Bagnaia. He finally won the first race of his career in Spain, and most recently finished as runner-up in Aragon.
After years of trying to cross the chequered flag first he finally got the monkey off his back, and how he has the taste for it he will be hoping to do so once again this weekend.
His time here in the past hasn’t been great with two 14th-place finishes, a retirement and a ninth-place finish last time out. But he’s never been as good as he’s been right now, and he will be confident.
He’s a great value bet to go all the way and bump against the favorites, so keep an eye on his odds over the weekend in case they drift slightly to get more value.
