Home ice has proven to be a 50-50 proposition in the NHL playoffs series between the Dallas Stars and Colorado Avalanche. The teams split two games in Dallas, then did likewise over a pair of tilts in Colorado. As this best-of-seven set moves back to Texas for Game 5 on Monday, the experts aren’t putting much stock in home-ice advantage.
Oddsmakers are going with the road team as the betting chalk. The Avalanche are -135 away favorites.
Let’s look at the latest betting line on this game. Remember, odds are subject to change.

Among two games on the NHL playoffs schedule for Monday, after checking the current NHL Playoff odds, we’re choosing this Avalanche vs Stars contest as being the best bet worth taking. There’s a lot to cover, so let’s jump right into our betting prediction.
When checking the NHL betting lines at any of the leading Vegas sports betting sites, you’ll find that both teams are among the top contenders in the 2025 NHL Stanley Cup odds. The NHL playoffs stats show the Avalanche holding a 21-20 straight-up edge over the Stars in all-time playoff games between the two teams. Interestingly, Colorado has played better at Dallas (12-9 SU) than on home ice (9-11 SU).
The Avalanche are 4-2 straight up in the past six games facing the Stars. At Dallas, the Avs hold a 5-3 SU edge over the last six meetings.
Colorado is 6-7 SU in the last 13 games. The Avalanche are 6-3 SU in their last nine road games. Colorado is 5-7 SU through the club’s past 12 games facing Western Conference opponents.
The Stars are 2-9 SU in their past 11 games. Dallas is 1-5 SU in the club’s past six home games. They are also 2-7 SU in the last nine contests facing teams from the Central Division.
Three of the past four games between the two teams have gone under. At Dallas, however, eight of the last nine games between the Stars and Avalanche hit on the over.
Four of Colorado’s last six road games have gone over. Overall, the under is 3-1-1 over the past five games.
Four of the last five games played by the Stars hit for the under. In eight of the last 10 games in which Dallas was facing Central Division opposition, the under was also the winning play on the total.
The Stars are 6-8-2 SU as a betting underdog this season. Dallas is 22-21 against the puck line as a home team. Colorado is 19-24 against the puck line as the away club. The Avalanche are 46-27-6 SU as the favorite in the betting line.
It’s taken him three years – 1,041 days, if you’re keeping score at home – for Avalanche captain Gabriel Landeskog to get back into the lineup. A major injury to his right knee that resulted in cartilage transplant surgery kept him out of the game since Colorado’s 2022 Stanley Cup triumph.

Landeskog returned for Game 3 of this series. Then in Colorado’s 4-0 Game 4 victory, he scored a goal. He’ll be back in the lineup again for Game 5, continuing his remarkable comeback.
With top power-play performers such as Nathan MacKinnon and Cale Makar, Colorado was expected to dominate Dallas with the man advantage. That hasn’t been the case. The Avs are 3-for-14 (21.4%) on the power play in this series. That ranks 11th out of 16 teams in the NHL playoffs.
Dallas has won two close decisions in this series, taking overtime victories in Games 2 and 3. The Stars tied the game in the third period in each of those wins. In their two losses, however, the Stars have been badly outplayed. They’ve scored just one goal in the two setbacks.

Colorado whipped Dallas 5-1 in Game 1. In the Game 4 shutout, the Avalanche outshot the Stars 48-23. Colorado held a 93-54 edge in total shot attempts. Stars goalie Jake Oettinger was chased after two periods, allowing three goals on 34 shots.
The Stars have been solid at home all season long. Dallas was 28-10-3 SU on home ice during regular-season play, helping earn them home-ice advantage in this series.
Teams seek out that home-ice edge for games just like this one. When a series is at 2-2, the percentages say the winner of Game 5 will go on to capture the set in the majority of instances. The Stars are also 7-4 SU in the last 11 postseason games facing the Avalanche. Take home underdog Dallas to defeat Colorado and grab the lead in this NHL playoffs series.
