What: Miami Dolphins vs Philadelphia Eagles – NFL Week 7
Where: Lincoln Financial Field, Philadelphia, PA
When: Sunday, October 22nd, 8:20 PM ET
The most highly-anticipated matchup of Week 7 will get to be on Primetime on Sunday night as the AFC powerhouse Miami Dolphins head out to the City of Brotherly Love to face the Philadelphia Eagles at Lincoln Financial Field. The kick-off is scheduled for 8:20 PM ET. Miami improved to 5-1 last weekend, hammering the winless Carolina Panthers 42-21. As for Philly, they finally lost as the New York Jets shocked them, with Jalen Hurts having one of his worst games ever. He’ll be poised to respond here on home soil. They still sit at 5-1, though. Continue reading for the Dolphins vs Eagles picks.
The odds are close here, but the Eagles are a slim moneyline favorite at -139. The Dolphins come back at +119. Philadelphia is also laying a mere 2.5 points on the spread and has gone 3-2-1 ATS. Miami, meanwhile, is 5-1 ATS. The total is set at 51.5. Three of the Eagles’ games have hit the over. The Dolphins have hit the over on four occasions in 2023.
Miami Looking Like a Serious Contender
Do not sleep on this dolphin group. Miami is flourishing so far, especially offensively. They’re first in total yards, passing yards, rushing yards, and points (37.2). It’s truly impressive how great this unit is right now. After several concussions last season, Tua Tagovailoa has bounced back with authority, completing over 70% of his passes for 1,876 yards, 14 touchdowns, and five interceptions. Out wide, he’s got a ridiculous duo in Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle, while the RB room, even without Devon Achane now, is legit. Raheem Mostert just showed he’s capable of leading the way in Week 6.
The Dolphins ripped apart the Panthers’ defense, with Tua going 21 for 31 for 262 yards and three touchdowns. He linked up with Hill six times for 163 yards, while Waddle also had seven catches for 51 yards. Both guys had a touchdown each, too. Cheetah is under 200 yards from the 1,000 mark, and it’s only Week 7. He’s unstoppable. As for Mostert, he balled out in the backfield, rushing for two touchdowns and 115 yards on 17 carries. He’s clearly up for the task of being RB1.
While Miami’s defense hasn’t been great, it’s yet to cost them except the lopsided loss to the Buffalo Bills. That being said, the Eagles are capable of keeping up with the Dolphins offensively, with tons of weapons out wide like AJ Brown, DeVonta Smith, and the newly-signed Julio Jones. Just because Philly lost last weekend doesn’t mean they can be taken for granted.
Can Eagles Respond?
I don’t think anyone could’ve predicted the Aaron Rodgers-less Jets would beat the defending NFC champions in Week 6, but that’s what happened. To be brutally honest, though, the Eagles beat themselves. Hurts threw an atrocious three interceptions, with the last one proving to be costly as NY eventually scored in the fourth quarter. It’s been a rather pedestrian season for Hurts, who has as many touchdowns (7) as interceptions. That’s not the same QB who was in the MVP running last season.
In the Jets loss, Brown managed to have another big outing, reeling in seven catches for 131 yards. D’Andre Swift also caught eight passes. While Hurts didn’t do his team any favors, the run game for Philadelphia was poor despite ranking second in the league. They racked up under 100 yards on the ground against a stout New York defense. Swift and Kenneth Gainwell will need to get it going on Sunday, while Hurts must take much better care of the football if they want to go toe to toe with Miami’s attack.
Yes, Philly does have a good defense, allowing only 20.7 points per game and ranking 9th in fewest yards allowed. But no one has shown they’re capable of slowing down Tua and Co. And when it comes to Hill, he’s essentially impossible to defend. The Eagles’ best chance at winning this one is to get it going offense and just trade shots with Miami.
Dolphins vs Eagles Picks
Miami has won two in a row against the Eagles, but that last meeting was in 2019. It’s hard to imagine Philly losing another one, especially considering this one is in front of their home fans. I’ll take the Eagles moneyline.
