Futures Picks for the 2022 MLB Draft
Updated July 12, 2022
The long wait is almost over for Major League Baseball fans, as the MLB Draft is right around the corner. With things coming later this week, people can’t wait to see who the Baltimore Orioles take with the No. 1 overall pick. In this article, we have futures picks for the 2022 MLB Draft, with one player in particular looking like he’s a lock to hear his name called first.
Druw Jones is the favorite to go No. 1 overall
As is expected, Druw Jones is the favorite to go No. 1 overall in the 2022 MLB Draft. Does that name sound familiar? Well it should, because Jones is the son of former Atlanta Braves superstar Andruw Jones. Andruw Jones is a guy who will always be loved by the fanbase, as he was a true superstar for the NL East side. Now, all eyes are on his son to see if he’ll live up to the hype.
According to the best rated sportsbooks out, Jones indeed has the No. 1 MLB odds to go first, as he’s been given -200 odds. However, he’s not the only person that Baltimore will be taking a strong look at. Other names to keep in mind here are Jackson Holliday, Termarr Johnson, Brooks Lee, Elijah Green, Jacob Berry, Kevin Parada and other standouts.
The pressure is most definitely on the Orioles to make the right selection here. Baltimore has been near the bottom of the AL East for years now and the fanbase is tired of seeing this team struggle. The hope is that the Orioles front office can make the right decision in the MLB Draft and bring in a player who can provide people with plenty of excitement moving forward.
From our chair, it’s going to come down to two players for the Orioles: Jones and Holliday. At the end of the day, however, we think that Jones is simply too good of a player to be left on the board. With his great power at the dish and his potential being through the roof, it feels like a no-brainer for Baltimore to go with him. Jones is our pick to go No. 1 overall. Agree? Don’t bet on pitchers to go within the Top 10 picks
In a stunning turn of events, fans should be aware of the talent in other positions besides the bump. That’s right, don’t bet on pitchers to go within the Top 10 picks of the 2022 MLB Draft. In stunning fashion, the current Top 10 prospects according to multiple different outlets doesn’t feature a pitcher. This is not something fans are used to, as pitchers usually dominate picks.
However, the expectation is that no pitcher will be selected early on in the first round. If no pitcher makes it into the Top 10, this would be the first time that has happened since 1979. As you can see, this isn’t something that goes down every season. Most baseball general managers love taking a long, hard look at a pitching prospect and thinking about his potential.
Jones is a stud center fielder, and again, we like his chances of being taken No. 1 overall. After that, the rest of the Top 10 prospects are made up of other outfielders, infielders and catchers. However, pitchers are nowhere to be seen, which is wild to think about. However, if ever there was a year for no pitchers to be in the Top 10, then this could be the one for things to go down.
The odds are yet to be released on whether or not a pitcher will be selected in the first 10 picks, but there’s sure to be plenty of intrigue surrounding these kinds of bets in the coming days. As we discussed above, it’s a surprise that this is the case, but we just don’t see a pitcher going in the Top 10. If you’re up for it, we suggest betting that no hurlers will be taken in those Top 10.
As things stand, it pretty much feels like a foregone conclusion that Jones will be taken No. 1. Should that happen, who will be the No. 2 pick in the MLB Draft? With the Arizona Diamondbacks picking second, it’s no secret that this team is looking for a shortstop of the future. They need someone to man the middle of the infield and do so in style for several years.
So, who will that be? Luckily for the D-Backs, there’s two great options who should be available for them: Jackson Holliday and Brooks Lee. The thing about Lee that plenty of MLB experts like is that he’s already got the college experience, having been a star for Cal Poly. Holliday is a great talent, but he just finished his high school career and will take a little longer to develop his game.
This will make things a bit tricky for the Diamondbacks when it comes time to make a decision, but they really can’t go wrong in this case. The odds for who Arizona will take haven’t been released yet either, but if we had to make a decision on who they’ll take, we’re going to go with Holliday. He’s simply that good of a player and would be a great fit for this team down the road.
