Stop us if you’ve heard this before, but there’s a new state looking to add sports betting and it could have a negative impact on things over in Sin City. Such is the case with Wisconsin now looking to make a move here. Could a decision come soon. That’s what local citizens are hoping for and there’s no question that Wisconsin pushing for sports betting is something Las Vegas must monitor.
Unfortunately, we’ve all seen how much of an impact the sports betting increase across the USA has hurt Sin City. In recent years, tourism numbers are down and this of course leads to the sports betting handle dropping as a result. While Las Vegas sees an increase in things for special events, Wisconsin potentially adding things could add to the dip even more. A final decision won’t come overnight, though.
“I’ll have to take a look at what the bill actually says, but also talk to those people from whichever tribal nations haven’t signed on where they are at,” Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers said in a recent interview with WBAY-TV on the new sports betting bill. “And so, we’ll be doing some talking with tribal leaders, and hopefully we can get something done.”
For now, we’re going to have to wait and see what ends up happening here. On one side, plenty of people in Wisconsin are hopeful that some historic news might come in soon, while plenty of others are opposed to things. It will be interesting to see how things eventually go down, but again, Wisconsin approving things could end up hurting Las Vegas in a big way.
NEW: The Wisconsin Senate passes a bill legalzing online sports betting, 21-12.
12 Dems and 9 Republicans voted yes. 3 Dems and 9 Republicans voted no.
The bill now goes to Gov. Evers' desk. Last month, the governor said not all tribes were "at the table" on the issue
NFL betting would of course take off in Wisconsin if things are passed
Taking a look at things long term, there’s no question that NFL betting would of course take off in Wisconsin if things are passed. When someone thinks of pro football, the Green Bay Packers are always going to be one of the first teams that people think of. Jordan Love is hoping to make a splash with the NFC North side next season, with the Packers in need of making a serious splash.
This is also a make-or-break year for Matt LaFleur, as the expectation is that unless he gets things back on the right track for this team, he’s going to get fired. Because of this, interest in the team is quite high and Packers fans would love nothing more than to put some money down after checking the Vegas NFL odds on Green Bay. So, will Wisconsin end up making history?
Before we dive into that further, now is our time to remind you that the local Las Vegas sportsbooks we work with offer up some fantastic special and bonus codes for you to take a look at. This includes some pretty great ones for your NFL betting needs. In Vegas, the Raiders are a popular team, so if you’re on the fence on placing some wagers, it’d be wise to check the deals out.
As for Wisconsin’s push, officials seem to be moving in the right direction. This of course is going to take some time and there are hurdles to get over. However, in a perfect world, we could see legal Wisconsin betting on the table before next NFL season comes to an end. If that does go down, you can expect countless wagers on the Green Bay Packers to get posted, especially if Green Bay sees its Super Bowl betting odds improve.
MLB and NBA betting would also be quite popular for Wisconsin bettors
In addition to the action on the gridiron, don’t forget that MLB and NBA betting would also be quite popular for Wisconsin bettors as well. That’s because in the MLB, the Brewers consistently have a lot of young, exciting talent and they’re always ready to make noise in the NL Central. The hope is that the Brewers can improve next year and make a splash in the postseason, should they advance to that stage.
On the hardwood, the Bucks have a ton of intrigue surrounding them thanks to Giannis Antetokounmpo being on the team. His future with Milwaukee is a bit up in the air, but if he does stay in town for the long haul, people would be jacked up to place bets on his props bets, plus games for the Bucks as well. Milwaukee is in the Eastern Conference and they’ve enjoyed some big years in recent seasons.
So, when will we know what happens? That’s hard to say, as things are a bit fluid. Soon enough, more upsets should be on the way and we’ll find out if good or bad news will be coming for Wisconsin sports fans. On top of that, it will also lead to either good or bad news for the Las Vegas online casinos too, as this vote will have a major impact on the economy in Sin City due to the sports betting numbers and how they might change.
