In some great news for local sports betting, the start of the new year could not go much better for Las Vegas and the state as a whole. With so many exciting games, it always felt like a lock that impressive numbers would be recorded and that’s exactly what has happened. In some great news for the state, Nevada posted a huge sports betting revenue in January.
According to multiple reports, the total betting handle for last month was $747 million, but the total revenue for the state was $67.6 million. Obviously, that’s a huge number and it’s something that local officials must be over the moon about. It goes without saying, but the strong January numbers no question had to do with the football postseason, as the NFL Playoffs and College Football Playoff were in full swing.
Starting with the College Football Playoff, fans across the country were excited about the massive matchups, but people always travel to Las Vegas in particular to not only watch the action, but to also place some bets. The Indiana Hoosiers were the No. 1 seed and they ended up winning it all. However, the Miami Hurricanes surprised a lot of people by reaching the final.
From our chair, it seems like the Las Vegas sportsbooks were able to make a large chunk of money thanks to the fact that the Ohio State Buckeyes, the No. 2 seed, lost to Miami early on in the CFP. That was a result that not a lot of people saw coming, as plenty of money was being placed on the Buckeyes. Ohio State lost, which surely proved to be great news for the betting revenue.
Las Vegas surely won big thanks to the Seahawks as well
Looking at things a little more closely too, Las Vegas surely won big thanks to the Seahawks as well, as Seattle went on to win the Super Bowl. However, even before the Super Bowl arrived, plenty of people thought the Rams were going to take down the Seahawks in Seattle in the NFC Championship Game. With money going on LA, the Seahawks prevailed and then later went on to beat New England for the title.
“You felt like we could win different ways, and that gives you a lot of confidence going every week, and we just kept stacking, kept stacking,” Seahawks coach Mike Macdonald said after winning the title. “We never really took a step back in terms of our approach, and what a great group, just what a remarkable group. They decided they were gonna play a certain way and be a certain team, and they did it.”

The NFL season may be over, but with free agency and the NFL Draft around the corner, now would be a great time to check them out.
As for the Seahawks winning the Super Bowl, that’s also going to have a positive impact on the February betting revenue numbers once they are released next month. All in all, the football season as a whole provided Nevada and Las Vegas with a huge boost to the numbers. It will be interesting to see how things look once February comes to a close, but we’re optimistic more good news will be on the way too.
Las Vegas will post great numbers for MLB betting as well
It’s hard to fathom, but spring training is sneaking up on us. With that, Las Vegas will post great numbers for MLB betting as well. With Las Vegas set to bring home an MLB team in 2028, there’s loads of excitement for that to happen. Because of that, interest in the bigs continues to be on the rise, which should lead to big betting numbers this season.
Last year, we saw an increase in things and more of the same will no question be on the way. Last campaign, the Los Angeles Dodgers were able to once again win the World Series, taking down the Toronto Blue Jays in a wild Game 7. Toronto nearly stunned us all by winning it, but the Dodgers ended up coming out on top. What will end up being the case in 2026?
The Dodgers are of course the favorites once again, holding the best Las Vegas odds, but the Blue Jays, Yankees, Mariners and others are ready to make a lot of noise as well. With Opening Day coming soon, we’re already seeing plenty of wagers being placed in Las Vegas and other parts of Nevada too. People can’t wait to see the best baseball players in the world back in action and the sports betting on that will surely reflect that.
