The Boston Red Sox have struggled of late, losing six straight games heading into this afternoon’s contest with the Toronto Blue Jays. Boston was swept by Detroit and now is in danger of being swept by Toronto if they drop this game today. Toronto’s offense is white-hot right now, especially Edwin Encarnacion, who has had two straight games with two home runs hit. We will take the Blue Jays on the road with the three-game series sweep today.
Toronto holding strong atop AL East
Toronto is doing well at the top of the American League East, tied with the Yankees for first. Their two wins in this series, and the struggles of the Red Sox, have catapulted the Blue Jays to the forefront of the division. The Blue Jays will look to sweep the series with Boston at Fenway when they send ace Mark Buehrle to the hill with a 7-1 record and an ERA of 2.11. His only loss of the season came at the hands of the Red Sox.
Red Sox in desperate need of a win against division rivals
Boston was swept by Detroit prior to this series and then dropped the first two games against Toronto. The Red Sox send Jon Lester to the bump today to stop this losing streak. Lester is just 4-5 this year with an ERA of 2.67. He faced Detroit in that series, allowing just one run, but suffered the loss. He will need to keep the ball in the yard against Toronto today if the Red Sox want to win this game.
Oddsmakers from SportsBetting.ag like the Red Sox at home with Lester on the mound to avoid the sweep on Thursday. We do not agree with this because of Boston’s struggles right now. This is why we will drop 15 percent of our bankroll on Toronto and the OVER 8.5 total runs scored at -115 this afternoon.
