Vegas has it going on this weekend, MMA fans, as UFC 272 is just a mere few days away. With the event on March 5th, sports bettors cannot wait to see the fight between Bryce Mitchell and Edson Barboza. Furthermore, the main is Colby Covington (the giant favorite) facing former best friend Jorge Masvidal. In this article, we have the best picks for UFC 272, which will be another stellar fight night. The action takes place from the T-Mobile Arena in beautiful Las Vegas, Nevada
The main event features Colby Covington going up against Jorge Masvidal. The American MMA artist is one of the top welterweights in the division. He comes in with a 16-3 record, four knockouts, and four submissions. Covington comes off his last fight against Kamaru Usman. He lost that by unanimous decision. Some pundits argue he gave a better account of himself in that bout compared to the first Usman fight.
As for Masvidal, the American has fought Usman twice in a row and lost both times. His record, is 35-15-0 in his career. On paper, these two are on the opposite sides of the spectrum. The last time Masvidal fought was April of last year. The welterweight champion bloodied Masvidal. That fight ended early in round 2 due to punishment via too many punches. Now, the odds are swept from the top-tier UFC online betting sites and listed here:
UFC 272 Odds -- Main Matches | |||
---|---|---|---|
Colby Covington | -310 | -350 | -350 |
Jorge Masvidal | +250 | +250 | +265 |
Kevin Holland | -300 | -325 | -310 |
Alex Oliveira | +240 | +245 | +240 |
Edson Barboza | +130 | +125 | +135 |
Bryce Mitchell | -160 | -155 | -165 |
Now, he enters this meeting with a chance to get closer to that one last bout for the Welterweight Championship. Masvidal, at 37 years old has taken quite the beating through the years. Think about it, he has 50 bouts at this level. Harkening back to his AFC days is saying something since that was all the way back in 2003. Age and again punishment. are two reasons why we are concerned with what may happen on Saturday.
Now, Covington comes in as a juicy favorite for the UFC Vegas Betting odds, while Masvidal is listed as a +245 to +265 underdog. This says it all when it comes to this fight at least according to wagering pundits. Even Covington fought just last November while again Masvidal has not fought since last April. Masvidal’s activity has slid backwards due to COVID as well.
There is little doubt that Colby Covington wants to end Jorge Masvideal’s career. For Masvidal’s part, he really is just looking for one more shot. That will not be easy against a Covington who is motivated to fight for the Welterweight title again. After all. Covington believes he had a real shot against Usman. He still believe he does.
Covington looked better the second time around against Usman. He did not look anywhere as tentative as he did in the first fight. The American even landed his fair share of shots on one of the best pound-for-pound fighters in the business. One has to admire how much tenacity Covington has shown. Few would believe he had a 16-3 record heading into UFC 272.
Now, Covington has definitely proved he belongs in the ring with the best of the best.. Furthermore the UFC 272 best picks favorite, Covington is ready for Masvidal’s attempts at trash talking and fighting. The trash talk alone between two fighters in their 30’s has been great. However, Masvidal may not have the stamina to last in this one against the younger Covington.
So, Covington seeing his odds go up to -350 for March 5th, take the American to move one step closer to another Welterweight Title Shot as he bests his former best friend.
In one of the craziest matchups of the night, Bryce Mitchell will defeat Edson Barboza when they rumble on this Saturday. As most fans know, these two are incredible in the featherweight class. Mitchell has nine submissions in his 14 wins and has a very amazing twister move that he can employ at almost any time. He can get you with punches but his preferred methods is again submission.
Even now, most are surprised that Mitchell has not fought since Halloween of 2020. That is not his fault but he has kept in shape. If it was not for several cancelled fights, Mitchell would easily be in the top ten when it comes to featherweight rankings. It is unfortunate that despite his ridiculous 62% strike rate, we have not gotten to see Mitchell “Thug Nasty” more often in the octagon.
This makes UFC 272 even more exciting for fans to watch. Everyone knows how aggressive Mitchell will want to come out. This is while Barboza has lost six of his last nine fights. He has triumphed two of the last three times but again, the featherweight battle could be Mitchell’s to lose. Barboza is 36 and the hands and legs are starting to show some signs of slowing down a bit.
Among the Vegas experts, this tilt leans toward Mitchell with -155 to -165 odds. Barboza is a modest +125 to +135 underdog. Mitchell will have some rust early and that may be the time for Barboza to strike. However, it will be Mitchell who likely ends this bout before a decision comes. We’re siding with Mitchell as another UFC 272 Best Pick. Do not forget to check out some fine NASCAR Vegas odds and bets too and shop those sites for some better numbers.
Last we look at Kevin Holland trying to put a rough 2021 behind him. The fighter lost twice via a couple unlucky five-round decisions then a clash of heads in an October bout knocked him unconscious.
Expect Holland to have little trouble against Alex Oliveira on Saturday night. This could be a get-well bout for Holland. Take the American MMA fighter even with the inflated odds in his favor.
