The numbers do not seem to match the numbers. What do we mean? Through 25 matches, Inter Miami remains the favorite despite not having the best record in the East. That distinction belongs to the Philadelphia Union at press time. Messi has been injured at times as the Inter squad finds its wa. MLS Futures Best Bets attempt to see who may ultimately win the MLS Cup.
Inter Miami carries a solid +15 goal differential among other attributes. However, at 42 points, they stand eight points out of the top spot in MLS. They do have games in hand unlike most of the teams they are chasing. That is the good news. The bad news is a more condensed schedule with an older Messi.
Now, we look at teams like the Philadelphia Union, who are playing stingy defense like they did a few seasons ago. Will that be enough to get them to the promised land? Or will it be another team out of nowhere? Perhaps, LAFC can restore some Los Angeles pride with the acquisition of Son-Heung-Min. Again, there are surprises like San Diego and Vancouver. Even Nashville, Seattle, and Minnesota cannot be counted out.
So you see, MLS Futures Best Bets comes with more questions. Let us try to answer a few of those.
So, Inter Miami is a bit Messi but again the favorites. One of the biggest concerns here is the idea that Messi is not 100% and allegedly has not been for weeks. Sure, this could be a minor malady. However, the Argentine star is well into his 30’s. At 38, it does seem the good days are starting to decrease in number. Despite this, the team from Miami is still topping most futures lists when it comes to winning the MLS championship.
Naturally, the team from South Florida leads the MLS in goals with 49. Messi leads the way there with 18 in 18 contests. They give up their fair share of goals with 34 (14th in the MLS). There is a noticeable difference when Lionel Messi is in and out of the lineup. Arguably, Inter Miami plays a little more scrappy and is then the type of team who could be more dangerous in the playoffs.
People forget how good this team can be even without their superstar. The problem is Inter Miami relies a little too much on him. This goes right down to coach Javier Mascherano. He has Argentinian connections and almost all but looks up to Messi.
Now, there is belief that Inter Miami can turn things around and make up points. Unfortunately, time may not be quite on Inter Miami’s side. Again, a better seed would keep them from being upset targets. MLS Future best bets has the team contending and could be worth a look especially if their number lengthens.
Yes, MLS Futures Best Bets offer more teams. Okay, what options are out there? Simply, at least a half a dozen teams can make a case as good or more compelling than Inter Miami. Let us start with the Philadelphia Union. This team has 50 points in 25 games. They lead the entire league in goal differential at +19. It is a squad that simply does not allow goals. They yield 0.96 goals per game. This feels like the team we saw a few years back.
Philadelphia is +1000 to win the title via BetOnline. That is quite a long number for a team who has been consistent all year (15-5-5). The East is jammed with good teams like FC Cincinnati, Nashville, and Columbus. Nashville is built a lot like Philadelphia and has given up only 26 goals. They possess an offense that can be more lethal than they appear – especially come playoff time.
Finally, Nashville at +1500 via MyBookie could be the best longer shot out of the contending bunch. Again, the playoffs are going to be more of a war in the East especially if some teams sneak in like NYCFC or the NY/NJ Red Bulls.
Are there more MLS Futures Best Bets? That answer is yes of course. Why not see what other surprises may be lurking out there.
One wager may be Sam Surridge to lead in goals over Lionel Messi. Right now, Surridge is at +225. With Messi at -115, he may go into plus money the longer this “minor injury” lingers. If one does want to bet on Messi, it would ironically be the goal scoring. Player of the year is less attractive at -340 via Bovada. Again, take Surridge here.
Bovada Vegas Bovada Sportsbook Review helps with soccer but goes beyond. Again. its app offers some of the best updates consistently.
