WNBA Future Bets hit the masses a while back. Some are surprised by that fact, but this is the reality. Thanks to Bovada online sportsbook, however, there are still some prime choices even during the middle weeks of October. After all, it is a long between now and the start of the 2023 WNBA season. What do you know? The WNBA “favorite” again in Las Vegas. Will we be picking Las Vegas to repeat in 2023, or can another team take the crown?
WNBA Early 2023 Outrights | |
---|---|
Las Vegas Aces | +200 |
Connecticut Sun | +350 |
Seatlle Storm | +600 |
Chicago Sky | +650 |
Washington Mystics | +700 |
New York Liberty | +1000 |
Dallas Wings | +1700 |
Phoenix Mercury | +1700 |
The Las Vegas Aces found their way to the WNBA promised land. Yes, the WNBA team was a great storyline early in 2022. That was clear in their start, where Las Vegas won nine of their first ten games. They were a great WNBA Future Bets pick then and managed to find a way to follow through and deliver on their first WNBA Championship. Yes, this was also the first major professional sports title for Las Vegas.
Give credit to Shawn Tempesta, who made a declaration in mid-August that the Las Vegas Aces would be the ones to deliver that professional championship to Las Vegas. Indeed, the Aces would not come up snake-eyes. They would not be denied as the Becky Hammon-coached team defeated the Connecticut Sun in four games. It was her first WNBA title as a head coach in her first WNBA season.
The Las Vegas Aces exude confidence and joy from their coach. There is little doubt that Becky Hammon’s high-tempo style had a few wrinkles, allowing them to play a little defense now and then. The argument came that it did fatigue her team some during the season. Behind Kelsey Plum, Chelsea Gray, and A’ja Wilson, this team adapted and changed tempo at will. That led Vegas to one title, but can it lead the Aces to more glory?
Therefore, WNBA Future Bets focuses on the dreaded “R” word. Can Las Vegas repeat, or will a team like Chicago or Connecticut spoil their bid? Could New York or even Seattle steal the trophy? Naturally, here at VegasBetting, our WNBA choices are below.
Granted, the Las Vegas WNBA Future Bets had better value last Fall. One never truly can underestimate the Chicago Sky, Seattle Storm, and Connecticut Sun. However, the books were not too keen on what Becky Hammon could so with this Las Vegas Aces’ squad. Early last Fall, when the 2022 odds first appeared, Vegas was down around +1000 to +1500. Pundits seem to forget that time. Hey, it happens.
Now, that 9-1 start to the season while topping 90 points in most of their contests drew the Aces a lot of notice. Even parts of the mainstream media one would not expect hopped on board. A story in Vegas about a Vegas team generates a good deal of buzz. Again, the best part about the Aces was their ability to adapt with a balanced roster. There were no egos; most importantly, when the intensity and clutch play was needed, Vegas delivered.
Las Vegas runs a transition offense that could be vital in subsequent playoff runs. With players building solid form and depth, the Aces are going to be a matchup nightmare for years to come. There is a nice way of saying this Aces team may have a game that has not even peaked yet. Kelsey Plum keeps growing her game which has led to the maturation of A’ja Wilson’s as well. Chelsea Gray leads the way but is far from the only main “lead”.
Finally, Hammon truly believes she has the beginning of a team that can make a number of deep runs. They were 4-0 in the playoffs on two days rest. Honestly, this team recuperates better than even the Chicago Sky did during their 2021 Championship Run. Therefore, from a win and loss standpoint, the Las Vegas repeat championship pick remains a nice choice for WNBA Future Bets.
The WNBA Future Bets asks the betting world this. Could the Chicago Sky bounce back after 2022? They won the title in 2021 but repeating proved to be too difficult. Sure, the Sky finished up 26-10 and had the same record as the Las Vegas Aces. Unfortunately, the Aces carried the tiebreaker advantage, pushing the Sky to the second seed. The Sky had to fight off a tougher-than-expected New York Liberty team in the opening round.
Then, the Connecticut Sun’s relentless attack and timely shooting were just too much, even for Chicago’s vaunted offense. The Sky averaged 86.3 points per game during the season. They had six players, all double averaging figures per game. Led by Candice Parker, Emma Vandersloot, and Kahleah Copper, Chicago could still be dangerous even if a couple of pieces retire or go elsewhere.
Yes, with a team that plays even minutes where no one wears themselves out, Chicago could be a team to reckon with in 2023
For the WNBA Final Future Bets, picking the Chicago Sky at +650 is wise. It carries a good deal of early value.
Could Connecticut live up to expectations? They are second in the odds currently at +350 and finished second to Las Vegas. The question is can they do it again? That answer is unknown. The Sun will make for an intriguing 2023 WNBA season.
