Max Verstappen may have been crowned world champion for the second time at Suzuka last Sunday, but there are still plenty of races left in the 2022 season, so here we look ahead to the next race with our 2022 US Grand Prix betting picks.
It wasn’t a case of if for some weeks now but when Max Verstappen became the 2022 F1 Drivers Champion. Such was his points lead; it was inevitable that Verstappen would win his second world championship this season.
The first time of asking, Verstappen and Red Bull had an uncharacteristically poor weekend in Singapore two weeks ago. But it wasn’t going to happen twice; Verstappen got the job completed in Japan last Sunday, winning his 12th grand Prix of the season and, with it, his second world championship.
Unlike in NASCAR, where there have been multiple winners this season, Verstappen has dominated F1.
His closest rival for wins this year is Charles Leclerc of Ferrari with three. At the same time, his closest rival in terms of points is teammate Sergio Perez, who has 253 – a full 113 points behind the world champion.
There has been betting without the Verstappen market for weeks, and I have seen with some F1 betting sites that the Dutchman is already odds on to win the title in 2023.
As mentioned, there is a live betting market to win the world championship without Verstappen available from the best F1 betting sites.
Currently, Charles Leclerc (-250) is the favorite. He is followed by Sergio Perez, who is +175. The next drivers in that market are George Russell (+6600), Carlos Sainz (+10000), and Lewis Hamilton (+15000).
Considering Perez currently leads Leclerc by one point, there could be some value there. There are still three races left this season, and with Verstappen now world champion, Perez might get more leeway from his team to go all out for the victory in the remaining races.
Before Verstappen’s world title confirmation, Perez would have had to drive to team orders to help Verstappen. That may still be the case, but it isn’t essential now.
The favorite to win the 2022 US Grand Prix is, obviously, Max Verstappen. Verstappen is -200 with the best Formula 1 betting sites.
The world champion is followed in the betting by Charles Leclerc at +350 and Sergio Perez (+900). After that, it is Lewis Hamilton (+1200), Carlos Sainz (+1600), and George Russell (+2500).

The 2022 US Grand Prix is being held at the Circuit of America’s course in Austin, Texas. The circuit is 3.4 miles long with 20 turns, and the drivers must complete 56 laps.
Last year’s race was won by Max Verstappen, who was also in Pole Position. The fastest lap went to Lewis Hamilton, who finished second in the race. Third place on the podium went to Verstappen’s teammate, Sergio Perez.
Onto our Formula 1 betting picks for the Circuit of the America’s race, the big question is, do we go with Max Verstappen? He’s going to win if all goes to plan, so what we need to decide is whether it’s worth the risk at such short Vegas odds or not.
In Japan, there was motivation to win due to Verstappen wanting to wrap up the world title. That job has now been completed, so even though there will still be motivation, the question is, just how much? And will it be enough?
I firmly believe that the battle between the Red Bull and Mercedes team principals Christian Horner and Toto Wolff has recently got personal. While he’s the man on top, I think Horner will want to dish out more punishment on Wolff.
Wolff’s Mercedes team hasn’t won a race all season. And now – with the world championship in the bag – Horner would love nothing more than to ensure that record continues for the remaining races.
Therefore, I do think that Red Bull and Verstappen will win. But I completely understand that at -200, Verstappen is very short. And I also realize that rules out hedging bets.
So if anybody is looking for an alternative bet, or if they wish to ignore Verstappen and go for value, then I would look at his Red Bull teammate. Sergio Perez finished second in Japan last week and won the Singapore Grand Prix the week before.
Perez is also going for second in the driver’s championship. Unless there is a penalty for breaching the salary cap imposed on Perez (Red Bull in general) last year, he has a great chance of finishing second in the driver’s championship this year.
Therefore at odds of +900, I make Sergio Perez my (second) betting pick to win the 2022 US Grand Prix.
