The 2024 Formula 1 season has completed its mid-season break and the action recommences this weekend in the Netherlands.
Max Verstappen leads the championship. But McLaren has been pushing them since Lando Norris took the checkered flag in Miami. And to add further intrigue to the remaining ten races, Mercedes also recently came to the party, picking up three wins in the last four races.
The championship is still Verstappen’s to lose, but he felt the strain before the four-week break. There has been infighting at Red Bull all season. But there also seemed to be plenty of petty arguments between the triple-world champion and his team over the radio in the weeks leading into the recess.
The break has come at a good time for Red Bull. It has allowed them the opportunity to hit the reset button and reassess the situation.
Have they used their time wisely and devised a strategy to see Verstappen make it four championships in a row? Or is the same pattern of infighting set to follow for the rest of the season?
We will soon find out.
Betting to win the 2024 Dutch Grand Prix
In the betting to win the 2024 Dutch Grand Prix, Max Verstappen is the favorite at +175. Lando Norris started the race week in Belgium as the favorite. But Verstappen has taken the favorites tag back after just one race.
Could this be down to the fact that this is Verstappen’s home Grand Prix?
Second in the betting is Lando Norris at +185. When you compare the odds on the two drivers, there is little to choose. And these odds could well flip before the first practice session on Friday.
Third in the betting is the McLaren No.2 Oscar Piastr at +500. Piastri is in good form with three podiums in his last four races, including his maiden win in Hungary in Round 13.
Then comes Lewis Hamilton at +850. The Mercedes driver was the beneficiary of his teammate, George Russell’s disqualification at Spa in the recent Belgian Grand Prix. Russell is +1000 to put that disappointment behind him and win at Zandvoort.
We have to return to Round 10 in Spain to find the last time Max Verstappen won a Grand Prix.
Despite his four-race drought, Verstappen still holds a healthy lead in the championship.
The Dutchman sits on 277 points. He holds a 78-point lead over Lando Norris who sits second with 199.
In the betting to win the Championship, Verstappen is still the red-hot favorite at -450. But the Red Bull driver has been -1400 in recent weeks and was -2000 in the early stages of the season.
His closest rival is Lando Norris at +300. The bookmakers are indicating that they believe the title is a two-horse race between Verstappen and Norris, as Oscar Piastri is the third-favorite at +10000, with Lewis Hamilton next at +15000 and Charles Leclerc at +25000.
Piastri is fourth in the championship on 167 points but has the in-form McLaren car to rely on. Lewis Hamilton is sixth in the points table on 150.
It’s Charles Leclerc who looks best placed to challenge. He sits third in the championship with 177 points.
The problem for Leclerc is that Ferrari has been awful since the Monégasque driver won the Monaco Grand Prix in Round 8. Leclerc has only managed one podium finish in the six races since his home Grand Prix win. His teammate Carlos Sainz has also only managed one podium across the same six races.
If Ferrari can start to pick up wins again, the +25000 on Leclerc could be a great value wager.

Circuit Zandvoort is a far shorter race track than what the drivers encountered at Spa in the last race. The 4.258 km track has 14 turns and has been described as really quick and pretty insane by some of the current crop of drivers.
Who will it suit best? It looks more akin to the Hungaroring circuit, where McLaren recorded a 1-2 with Piastri taking the checkered flag in a race dominated from start to finish by the British team.
Verstappen will be hungry to win his home race. But we feel a bet on McLaren is the better value. Either McLaren to win the race is +100, and both McLarens to finish in the top three is also +100.
Either bet looks like a good option. But our betting pick is for a McLaren car to win the 2024 Dutch Grand Prix.
