Tadej Pogacar missing this event pauses the rivalry he has going with Wout van Aert and Mathieu van der Poel.
Which one of them will be able to take advantage of his absence?
Before making your bets for the 2023 Paris-Roubaix, you will want to ensure you’re using the best sportsbook. There’s no better way to verify that than to check our reviews of popular online sportsbooks.
Van Aert and Jumbo-Visma have a strong team on paper, providing them with a variety of options for Sunday’s race.
This spring van Aert has been one of the top performers in the Classics, outpacing van der Poel and Pogacar at the E3 Sax Classic.
Van Aert is considered the favorite for this race and has already placed second in this race last year.
He went on to finish third at Milan-San Remo and fourth at Tour of Flanders, which should be a promising sign for Sunday’s race.
The favored rider rarely wins this race, but with the improvements, Van Aert has displayed this season, I have no issue with betting on Van Aert to win the 2023 Paris-Roubaix.
Despite only competing in two cobbled races this spring, Van der Poel has established himself as one of the strongest riders and is a top contender for victory in the upcoming race on Sunday.
Following his triumph at Milan-San Remo, he finished second in both the E3 Sax Classic and the Tour of Flanders, losing to Wout Van Aert and Tadej Pogacar, respectively.
However, with Pogacar absent from the start list and Van Aert struggling to keep up with van der Poel’s attacks in this year’s Spring Classics, the 28-year-old Dutchman is expected to dominate.
Van der Poel has only participated in two Paris-Roubaix races, finishing third in his first attempt at the rain-soaked 2021 event and placing ninth last year.
These impressive performances make van der Poel a rider to keep your eye on in this race and is a very solid bet at +450 odds.
The reigning Paris-Roubaix champion is not considered the favorite to win this year. He hasn’t been able to test his form in recent weeks due to a combination of a crash at the E3 Sax Classic and subsequent illness.
However, he has resumed training, but the question remains whether his illness and missed races have affected his form.
Van Baarle is due for an uphill battle as he tries to repeat as champion, something no other rider has done since 2008-09.
Even with the third-best odds, I would not advise on betting on Dylan Van Baarle to repeat at Paris-Roubaix.
Mohoric is not one of the favorites for this race with his +2500 odds, but he is a great sleeper pick for this event. He demonstrated his capability in this race last year, finishing fifth in only his third appearance.
He may be suited for more climbs, descents, and breakaways but despite his crash at Flanders last week, he seems to be in good shape for Sunday’s race.
The recent accident may be the only reason his odds are so great. The value of taking one of the best riders in the world with the eighth-best odds is too tempting to pass up.
I would recommend betting on Mohoric to win this race at +2500 odds.
Neither van Aert nor van der Poel has ever won this race, however, this year that changes.
I’m picking Mathieu van der Poel as the best bet to win this race at +450 odds.
