As another round of the Formula 1 season continues, fans can get a first glimpse at some of the future odds for this Sunday’s race in Britain. In this article, we point out some Formula 1 Futures for the British GP at Silverstone. Will Max Verstappen continue his dominance for the Red Bull team? Or will Lewis Hamilton get back to form after a rough several weeks? Better yet, could a longer shot spoil the party?

It is a little strange getting used to the fact that Lewis Hamilton is not the runaway favorite anymore. Hamilton is an all-world driver who looked poised to be heading to his eighth World Championship. The thing is this. There was a clear trend that the Red Bull would have better metrics and dynamics as the 2021 season wore on. That has now borne some fruit.
Now, the obvious thing is Verstappen is the hot driver. He has already exceeded his win total from a disastrous 2020. The Red Bull driver had to retire five times last year. This year, he looks to get his sixth win on the season in Britain on Sunday. That’s right. Verstappen has five wins in 2021 and leads the point race by 32 points.
Less DNF’s has helped Verstappen stay on the podium as well which is important. Besides the five wins, the racer has three more podia (top-three) results. The other nice thing for the Belgian is how young he is. At just under 24, Verstappen will only get better.
That is partially why Formula One Futures are tilting more and more toward Verstappen. The writing is on the wall so to speak. The No. 33 car has the ability to just flat out pull away on these “summer tracks” much in the way that Lewis Hamilton did early in the season. Last week, Verstappen won by a leisurely 17+ seconds over Valtteri Bottas. As long as Red Bull does not botch pit strategy or something unforeseen happens, the young Belgian is almost a lock to win this weekend.
This is where the debate for Formula One Futures begins. Are the high-rake cars at a disadvantage? The answer may be more than the Red Bull just is a better front-running car than the Mercedes. Does a couple of seconds make a difference? Yes. Is it the penultimate difference? Probably no.
It will be difficult again for anyone to challenge Verstappen on Sunday. While his odds are somewhat low, he is our pick.
With the 2021 season slipping away, the Formula 1 Futures do not favor the Mercedes driver anymore. The British racer, after the week England had, now has a nation’s eyes looking forlorn at him. He faces some of his longest odds of the season as well at +160 this week for his home country’s race.
What may be worse is that Hamilton finished off the podium last week in fourth place almost 46 seconds behind Verstappen and nearly 29 seconds in back of his teammate, Valtteri Bottas. What had been such a promising start to the season has really deteriorated since Monaco. From the lockup of the brakes at Abu Dhabi to now, Hamilton has lost quite a few points in the standings and a good deal of that has been from self-inflicted mistakes.
It will boil down to the start for Hamilton on Sunday. He has to get that holeshot then hope pit strategy serves him well. Let’s face it. Red Bull has the fastest car, better downforce, and better turn radius on courses like the British Grand Prix. The dynamics are not on the Mercedes side currently.
Again, as we mentioned, there is again that home country hope.
For Formula 1 Futures, Lewis Hamilton is getting to be more and more of a longshot even for this weekend’s event. It would not be a surprise to see his odds lengthen a bit between now and later in the week before practice and qualifying.
Verstappen and Hamilton have earned their place in the Formula 1 Futures’ hierarchy. The two drivers have won a combined eight races on the season with Sergio Perez winning the one. There have been some close calls where the other drivers have almost topped the podium. However, Verstappen and Hamilton are a cut above.
The question is who else can compete with these two drivers? It is more or less a Red Bull-Mercedes battle royale. However, the odds seem to be in agreement on the picks for this week.
While practice laps do not always translate, Sergio Perez may be one to look at even this weekend. Perez has a win and two podiums on the season. He is finding his way on Team Red Bull after a rough start. That does not bode well for Mercedes or anyone and he does have +1100 odds to win. Again, that is considered a bit of a long shot.
Is there any other driver that carries value? It is rumored that Valtteri Bottas may be racing for a ride in 2022. Bottas has no wins but five podiums and has shown the ability to handle the Mercedes better lately than Lewis Hamilton at times. He is also +1100 for Sunday.
