An exciting 2025 Formula 1 season continues this weekend as the grid heads to Canada for the tenth race of the campaign, with the Drivers’ Championship firmly up for grabs.
The 2024 edition of this race saw Red Bull star Max Verstappen claim victory en route to a third consecutive world championship, finishing ahead of rivals Lando Norris and George Russell on the podium, and he’ll have huge competition if he wants to find success once again.
We’ll look ahead to the race as we provide you with our best free F1 betting picks to try and earn you some extra cash while you enjoy the action on the track.
The favorite with the bookmakers to come out on top in Montreal is McLaren star Oscar Piastri, who is the current leader in the Drivers’ Championship and the best driver on the grid so far this season.
Piastri’s season opener in his home country of Australia ended in disappointment as he finished in ninth place. But he has since been in immaculate form, as he finished as the winner in all of China, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Miami and Spain, while also claiming podium finishes in Japan, Emilia Romagna and Monaco for a near-flawless campaign.
While he comes into the tournament in fantastic form and with plenty of momentum, Piastri’s experiences in Canada haven’t been the best. His two appearances so far have seen him claim an 11th-place finish and a 5th-place finish, although it’s more than fair to mention the fact he’s now in a far better car.
It’s also a car that almost perfectly suits this track with it’s incredible straight line speed, and that is a big reason to back Piastri. It’s no surprise to see him as the favorite, and with odds of +140 there is good value in it too if you see a familiar result this season taking place once more.
The runner-up in Canada in 2024 and the man who is currently Piastri’s closest challenger for the Drivers’ Championship in 2025, Lando Norris is our pick for the F1 Canadaian Grand Prix.
McLaren have been the dominant team on the grid this season, and it’s been minor decisions and moments that have gone against him for the most part.
A fast start to the season saw him claim victory in the opening race of the season in Australia, before securing three consecutive podium finishes, and then finishing fourth in Saudi Arabia. He then finished as runner-up in Miami and Emilia Romagna to keep himself in the running for the championship, while he also claimed victory in Monaco for the first time in his career.
Much like Piastri, his previous outings in Canada haven’t been the greatest. He retired early in his first appearance before finishing 15th and 13th in his next two races. But in 2024 he improved massively to finish as runner-up, and now he has the perfect car to go one better.
He’s a world-class driver and his experience on a track like this, now with a car like this, this may be the best chance for him to get a win over his teammate. With the added value of +225, take Norris to be victorious.
Verstappen is chasing a historic fourth world title in a row, and he was right in the mix after a strong start to the 2025 season.
The flying Dutchman’s Red Bull car claimed its third victory of the season at Emilia Romagna, having previously finished first in Japan and Saudi Arabia. But he has struggled with his car for a lot of the season too, and his frustration boiled over in Spain, where a crash with George Russell saw him handed a 10-second penalty and eventually finish in P10.
Canada is a track where he has had great success, winning in each of his last three appearances in Montreal, and this could be the perfect opportunity for him to get back to winning ways and close the gap at the top of the Drivers’ Championship standings.
It will need a near-perfect race on his end, plus some help from faltering McLarens to get the job done, but at odds of +500 there is good value in him doing just that.
