Today marks the start of the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics, and here we look at Team USA from a betting perspective and assess their chances of beating the gold medal spread, and the total medals spread.
In Pyeongchang four years ago, Team USA won 23 medals overall. The breakdown was 9 gold, 8 silver, and 6 bronze.
The USA finished a respectable fourth on the medals table. That was a fair distance behind the overall winners of the most medals, Norway.
The Norwegians took home a massive 39 in total. Their breakdown was 14 gold, 14 silver, and 11 bronze.
With Norway’s Olympic roster looking even stronger this year, it’s hard to see the USA or anyone else dethrone the Norwegians in Beijing.
This view is also supported by the best Vegas sportsbooks. They have Norway at just -600 to top the Gold medal table again this year.
But what about the USA’s 2022 medal prospects and latest betting odds?
Team USA is +1200 on the Moneyline to top the Gold medal table. That’s the fourth favorite.
2022 Winter Olympics Most Gold Medals Betting | ![]() | ![]() |
---|---|---|
Norway | -600 | -600 |
Germany | +500 | +550 |
ROC | +1000 | +1000 |
USA | +1200 | +1100 |
Canada | +1600 | +1600 |
China | +1800 | +3300 |
Netherlands | +3300 | +3300 |
The nation expected to run the Norwegians closest is Germany. After that, it’s the ROC (Russian Olympic Committee), with Team USA and Canada both closely following behind.

On the spread markets, both markers are set in the same region of how many medals that Team USA won in Pyeongchang.
Looking at the total golds first, Team USA – as we alluded to above – took home 9 golds four years ago.
So with the spread set at 8.5, Team USA will need to match Pyeongchang’s haul of nine golds to beat the spread.
That sounds feasible to the average punter. But with Norway expected to be even stronger this time around, I expect it will be tough for Team USA to beat the gold medal spread.
The USA has great gold medal chances with Nathan Chen, Erin Jackson, Chloe Kim, Red Gerard, Mikaela Shiffrin, etc, but I’m not convinced they will get enough to get the nine required to beat the spread.
Therefore my opening pick for the 2022 Winter Olympics is for the USA to have under 8.5 gold medals.
Like with the gold medals spread, the marker for total medals is also bang on the money from 2018.
In Pyeongchang, Team USA won 23 medals in total. In 2022, the spread is set at 22.5!
The US has plenty of medal chances. And while I don’t see them having much success on the gold front, I can see the USA team climbing one or two steps up on the podium often enough to claim 23 medals or more.
They have medal chances with the likes of Nathan Chen, Mikaela Shiffrin (3), Elana Meyers Taylor (2), Kaillie Humphries, Kaysha Love. Jessi Diggins, Alex Hall (2), Aaron Blunck, Hanna Faulhaber, Red Gerard, Chloe Kim, Jamie Anderson, Jordan Stolz, Joey Mantia (2), Erin Jackson, and Brittany Bowe (2).
As well as the talented pool of individuals listed above, and I’ve missed a few, Team USA is in with a shout of at least 5 team medals, such as in Pursuit Speed Skating and Women’s Ice Hockey.
There are well over 23 expected medal chances there in total.
I fully expect some names from the list to miss out, but I believe there will be others who will overachieve and make the podium, who I haven’t listed.
So my second spread betting pick on the 2022 Winter Olympics is for Team USA to get over 22.5 total medals.
This year the Winter Olympics is coming from Beijing, China.
The official start date is February 4th. But the games have already started with pre-qualifying events already having taken place for a few days before the start.
The event then runs for a full 16 days, with the closing ceremony taking place on February 20th.
The 2022 Winter Olympics has plenty of betting opportunities across the 16 days of action.
