The Formula 1 roadshow continues, and after an enthralling day at Silverstone last Sunday, we now look ahead to this weekend’s race with our 2022 Austrian Grand Prix betting picks.
Last Sunday’s race at the legendary Silverstone circuit had just about everything. The race got underway with a big smash-up, with the car of Zhou Guanyu cartwheeling off the course in spectacular fashion after a racing incident with George Russell.

That saw the race delayed, but when it did restart, it certainly lived up to expectations. There was a maiden win for Carlos Sainz Jr, and there were more incidents out on the road, and it appears that debris picked up by Max Verstappen was behind his 7th place finish. We also saw a 3rd place finish for Lewis Hamilton, in what was another sign Mercedes are finally catching up with Ferrari and Red Bull.
But even if the German outfit does have a strong finish to the season, it’s too little too late for Lewis Hamilton’s chances of an 8th world title this year. He is just already way too far behind Verstappen to have a chance of catching him. Famous last words!
But this Sunday, Hamilton will have the chance to close the gap on Verstappen and his rivals, when the Austrian Grand Prix takes place at the Red Bull Ring in Spielberg.
The Austrian Grand Prix is on July 10th, with a start time of 9 am ET. The race is 71 laps of the 4.128km Red Bull circuit, with a road race distance of just over 306 kilometres.
Last year’s race was won by Max Verstappen of Red Bull. The current world champion also took pole position and had the fastest lap on the day.
There will be little surprise to hear that Max Verstappen is the favorite with the best Vegas sportsbooks to win the 2022 Austrian Grand Prix. Verstappen is the runaway leader in this year’s Driver’s Championship, and as we’ve already alluded to, he won here 12 months ago.

Could Verstappen be upstaged by a resurgent Lewis Hamilton in his Mercedes? Well, in their latest Formula 1 betting odds, Bovada only makes Hamilton their fourth favorite in the betting at +1000. With Verstappen at -120 and Charles Leclerc at +250, Bovada sees this as a two-horse race.
As we saw last weekend, something as simple as debris on the road can derail a favorite and prevent him from winning. It’s pretty much always a 50/50 call in the odds on a Verstappen win, as is perfectly highlighted with odds of -120 on him to win in Austria.
Verstappen has also won six of the ten races this season, giving us a better than one in two winning ratios. It has to be the obvious bet, as there is no real reason to oppose him, so Max Verstappen is my betting pick to win the 2022 Austrian Grand Prix.
Last weekend I went for Esteban Ocon for a Top 6 finish as his Alpine car has been performing well lately. Unfortunately, Ocon was a victim of some of the racing incidents, shall we call them, and couldn’t complete the race.
His Alpine teammate, Fernando Alonso did manage a 5th place finish though, showing just how well the pair’s cars are performing.
It’s pointless making them our picks to win the race, as you would need all six cars from Ferreri, Red Bull, and Mercedes to be out of the race for that to happen. But I do feel that both Ocon and Alonso are value picks for a top 6 finish again.

After the win at Silverstone for Carlos Sainz Jr, the odds for the 2022 Driver’s Championship still sees Max Verstappen as the overwhelming favorite. The defending champion is -500 to win back-to-back titles, despite his disappointing 7th place finish at the British Grand Prix.
The sites offering the best Vegas betting odds for Formula 1 see Sunday’s race as merely a minor setback for Verstappen and Red Bull, as opposed to a long-term problem. Verstappen’s teammate Sergio Perez finished second at the British circuit, so there is no problem with the car or the team. It was simply one of those days when things don’t go to plan.
Elsewhere Lewis Hamilton and Mercedes finally looked back in business at Silverstone. The 7-times world champion finished 3rd at the Northamptonshire circuit, with his third podium this season. Hamilton remains sixth in the driver’s championship, but at odds of +2500, the Mercedes driver has effectively been written off by the best Vegas sportsbooks.
