Then, there is USC. These Lady Trojans feature the most electrifying player in college basketball this year potentially. That would be JuJu Watkins. Lindsey Gottlieb has a heck of a 1-2 punch with Watkins and Rayah Marshall. Expect the depth to improve as well along with the Sophomore Guard who averaged 27.7 points per game. That will be bad news for Big 10 opponents and teams nationwide.
Finally, there may be a sneaking reason that a couple of books have listed USC at less than +400. These Lady Trojans got to the Elite Eight in 2024. 2025 may be the year they take a few steps further.
Early on, this seems like a contest between Paige Bueckers of Connecticut and JuJu Watkins of USC. Hannah Hidalgo of Notre Dame is more like the third wheel at this point. Watkins is one of those players who could potentially average 30+ points this season. She could be like Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese but dominating in a different way.
Bueckers will be right there behind her 53% shooting and 42.5% from three-point range. The belief is that Watkins will only improve much as Bueckers did. Both players can be great but the upside of Watkins and that +300 number is a real tipping point.
