San Diego dropped a tough matchup in the opening game of the series. Philadelphia is now a season-high 15 games over .500. Meanwhile, the Padres are back to nine games under .500. At the very minimum, San Diego needs to find a way to get to .500 and then hope for a lot of help. The Padres have a better pitcher at home for this matchup at least. On Monday, the Padres even got past the five-run mark, which is saying something at home.

San Diego wishes they were playing like this when the season started. 2023 represents the season of what might have been. Now, the Padres are a good team with a below-average record.
